Champawat was the first capital of the Chand dynasty and is known for the Baleshwar temple, the hill town of Lohaghat, Abbott Mount and the Devidhura Bagwal at Maa Barahi temple on Raksha Bandhan. Purnagiri temple near Tanakpur draws large crowds in spring.
