It lies at roughly 1,214 metres above sea level, in the middle hills belt of Garhwal. As the crow flies it is about 135 km from Dehradun and 51 km from Gopeshwar, the district headquarters. The nearest town is Gairsain (14 km). Gairsain tehsil has 229 villages listed on My Haldwani. Malkot has its own post office, Malkot BO (PIN 246431).
